چکیده

We carry out a two-dimensional study of temperature, entropy and pressure distributions in a nearly volume-limited subsample of REFLEX clusters at redshift 0.3, the REFLEX-DXL. We use the observations gained by XMM-Newton, which cover the central 1−2× r500. We define the substructure in both entropy and pressure as a deviation from the mean profile of the sample. The non-parametric locally weighted regression suggests a broken power law approximation to the entropy profile with inner and outer slopes of 0.78 and 0.52, respectively, and a break at 0.5r500. The characterization of the pressure profile is more complex, requiring three power laws, with slopes −0.64 at r < 0.3r500, −2.47 at r > 0.5r500 and a slope of −1.50 in between. An analysis of the substructure in the pressure and entropy maps reveals somewhat larger fluctuations around the mean pressure profile compared to the entropy. Typically, pressure fluctuations are found on the 30% level, while the entropy fluctuations are at the 20% level (r.m.s.). We compare the cumulative distribution of the substructure level in the REFLEX-DXL sample with the results of numerical simulation and by means of KS test show that they are in agreement. A discussion of the origin of the substructure is provided on individual cluster basis.

This contribution illustrates the study of galaxy clusters as astrophysical laboratories as well as probes for the large-scale structure of the Universe. Using the REFLEX Cluster Survey, the measurement of the statistics of the large-scale structure on scales up to 500 h Mpc is illustrated. The results clearly favour a low density Universe. Clusters constitute, in addition, well defined astroph...

XMM-Newton OBSERVES CLJ0152.7−1357: A MASSIVE GALAXY CLUSTER FORMING AT MERGER CROSSROADS AT Z = 0.83

We present an analysis of a 50 ks XMM-Newton observation of the merging galaxy cluster ClJ0152.7−1357 at z = 0.83. In addition to the two main subclusters and an infalling group detected in an earlier Chandra observation of the system, XMM-Newton detects another group of galaxies possibly associated with the cluster. This group may be connected to the northern subcluster by a filament of cool (...

Xmm – newton AO - 1 observations of three SHARC galaxy clusters

We present the follow-up of three medium redshift galaxy clusters from the SHARC survey observed with Xmm–newton. We studied RX J0256.5+0006 which shows two components which are very likely in interaction. The smallest component exhibits a comet-like structure indicating ram pressure stripping as it falls onto the main cluster. The second cluster, RX J2237.0-1516 is an elliptical cluster with a...

Testing the galaxy cluster mass - observable relations at z = 1 with XMM - Newton and Chandra observations of XLSSJ 022403 . 9 - 041328 ⋆

We present an analysis of deep XMM-Newton and Chandra observations of the z = 1.05 galaxy cluster XLSSJ022403.9-041328 (hereafter XLSSC 029), detected in the XMM-Newton large scale structure survey. Density and temperature profiles of the X-ray emitting gas were used to perform a hydrostatic mass analysis of the system. This allowed us to measure the total mass and gas fraction in the cluster a...

Planck early results. XXVI. Detection with Planck and confirmation by XMM-Newton of PLCK G266.6–27.3, an exceptionally X-ray luminous and massive galaxy cluster at z ~ 1⋆

We present first results on PLCK G266.6−27.3, a galaxy cluster candidate detected at a signal-to-noise ratio of 5 in the Planck All Sky survey. An XMM-Newton validation observation has allowed us to confirm that the candidate is a bona fide galaxy cluster. With these X-ray data we measure an accurate redshift, z = 0.94 ± 0.02, and estimate the cluster mass to be M500 = (7.8 ± 0.8) × 1014 M . PL...
